Three years ago, when I watched 'Premam' never in my wildest dream did I ever imagine myself talking to 'Celine.' Talking to Madonna Sebastian work was absolutely delightful and something I'll always cherish. Good luck, Madonna! Hope we meet again.
Madonna Sebastian will next be seen in the gangster film Junga, with Vijay Sethupathi in lead role. This film marks the third project of the actress with Sethupathi. They have earlier worked together in Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum and Kavan.
The Interview
How do you select the movies you choose to act?
The director is most important to me. The script is secondary. I'm not sure if I should let my secret out (laughs) So when the director narrates the story to me, I look out for key points. Has the director worked on this character? Is the character important? Has he given soul to the character? The sensibility of the director is most important to me. I also look for the director's way of narrating the story to me. If I feel the story is right, then I get to act on it. Can you tell us about the actors who inspire you? Vijay Sethupathi is one such person who inspires me because I have seen his work in person. I also take in little, little from everybody. So when I see a movie, I take the best parts of it and try to learn from it. In that way, I learn easily. I see the best in everyone and try to mimic their performance. Tells us about your passion for singing? Singing has always been a part of my blood for as long as I remember. I have been singing since I was 6 years old. That's what helped me to get into the industry. When I get to sing for movies, I first try to understand the meaning of the song. There are many singers I admire. I grew up listening to Celine Dion when I was young. Now I like Bruno Mars. (Smiles) Of all the performances you have done till date, which movie made you to give in a lot of effort? It took a long time to shoot "Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum" because my character had a big role in it. It was a lot of work and I think I put in a lot of effort to that movie. You have worked with multiple languages. Do you finding it difficult to perform? Not much but the only thing is that it takes time for me to learn my lines. Only if I learn my lines two or three days before, I manage to deliver my performance well. I like to be prepared always. Can you tell us about your film in english language, "Humans of Someone"? It is not a commercial movie. It was very interesting and it's taken as a tribute to director, Padmarajan. He's a celebrated director in Malayalam cinema. He was a genius. It's based on a lot of movies that he brought out. I can't really speak about my character (laughs) but it's a really good movie. How has your life changed since "Premam"? A lot has changed. I have been very choosy of the film I get to act. My career is actually very slow. Also my family is very important to me. I have a younger sister and I do my best to spend as much time with her as possible. If you show your face on screen to much, I think people will get bored of you. I think slow and steady is better (smiles) |
