A Leap of Date; a romantic chat story
As technology gets better, the way we consume stories has also advanced.
For the past two years (I guess), social media has become the new platform for amateur writers to strike a rhythm in the hearts of a billion netizens. I keep reading dozens of poems or short stories on Instagram and Facebook. They are just brilliant. I follow many writers on social media who share lovely monologues. They are so good to read. It's like chewing toffee. |
I remember the first time I came across a chat story by Terribly Tiny Tales on Instagram.
It was so cool, and I lost track of time. Chat stories are short and fast. It’s like being a part of an emotionally wrecking roller coaster ride.
I was left in awe by its brilliance and simplicity; how so little words can make you stop and say, ‘huh’. Chat stories are just dialogues between two characters.
You don’t know where it happens or how they look but all you know is that these fictional-beings exchange a string of words that are strong enough to slash a deep void in your heart. I realized that chat story is an untapped world for me to explore.

Two months ago, TTT launched their app where writers could create chat stories.
I decided to write, ‘A Leap of Date’.
It’s about Irfan and Aditi. A Muslim boy. A Hindu girl. Two different people. Two different faith. Same yet different. Will they go out for a date?
Writing it was one of the best experiences I ever had. Maybe, its because it is based on people I know. For obvious reasons, I have changed their names, tinkered the dialogues, added salts of fiction but still never diverged away from the ‘truth’.
When writers write stories, they always add a grain of truth. A great writer once said, ‘Fiction is the lie through which you tell the truth.’ Writing this chat story was exhilarating and emotionally draining but the result was deeply satisfying. In fact, even the ‘real characters’ loved it so much (I am not kidding) and they blessed me with success.

Once I was done, I uploaded it on YouTube. Over the years, I have come to acknowledge the fact that writing is not really a big deal; if you are a disciplined writer, you are bound to get better. But getting your work published is a lot tougher.
Trust me, I know. Just imagine how it will feel to hold a book with your name on it. To see your work published is to have a license to flaunt; I am in print and therefore, I’m alive.
Now that my chat story is available on YouTube for free, I am still skeptical if I will find a reader but I'm hopeful that there is at least one person out there waiting to read my story. It is eight minutes long.
Maybe you can watch it on your way to work or while returning from school.
Maybe you can watch it while you have your morning tea.
Maybe you can watch it when you get a chance to steal a few minutes from work.
Eight minutes is all I ask from you to read my chat story.
It will be great if you add your honest comments, share it with your friends, hit ‘like’ if you love it or hit ‘dislike’ if you hate it.
Your valuable feedback will help me to become a better writer.
Eights minutes.
I hope you guys read it.
